The City of Varnell provides WEEKLY garbage pickup service for the city residents.  The pickup time will be on each Saturday morning beginning at 7:30 A.M.  There will be no fee for this service.

However, there are several important rules which have been established in order for the city to provide this service.  Your compliance with these rules is required and expected, thereby helping the city to maintain a service that is efficient, cost effective, and easy as possible to accomplish.

The rules are as follows:

1. Collection pickup shall be curb-side, and Pickup is for city residents only.
2. Only household garbage will be picked up.  Appliances, furniture, etc will not be accepted.
3. All garbage SHALL be in plastic trash bags with opening closed and tied or knotted.
4. All scattered garbage will be the responsibility of the household resident.  Our garbage truck workers will not gather up garbage that has been torn from the bag by dogs or other means.  Note: If you will spray a small amount of ammonia on, or in the bag, the animals normally will not bother the garbage bag.
5. Our garbage workers are instructed not to handle raw garbage which is not in plastic bags.  If the resident places raw garbage in garbage cans, the garbage will be left at curb-side.
6. Georgia State Law does not permit grass cuttings, leaves, tree limbs, or yard trimmings to be placed in the landfills of this state. Therefore, we will not pickup any garbage that has the above items mixed in with household garbage.
7. Please have your garbage out on time.  Our truck does not back-track to pickup garbage that was placed on the curb after the truck has already passed the residence.
8. Our truck and crews pickup garbage each Saturday Morning EXCEPT when Saturday falls on a legal holiday.  The holidays are as follows: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, July 4^th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.  Collection will be made the following Saturday.
9. All syringes / needles must be put in a plastic container (milk jug, coke bottle).  Any trash that has loose needles / syringes in it will not be picked up.  Future trash pickup may be discontinued to your residence for a violation of this rule.  This rule is for the safety of our workers.

The City of Varnell officials ask for your help toward keeping our city clean.  Please keep the street right of way and ditch clean in front of your property.  Your help is appreciated.
