City Council Members

David is married to Sherry Owens and has been happily married for 42 years. Their 2 sons, Chris and Brian are married to Sandy and Mandy respectively. They have 3 grandchildren - Trevor, Payton & Shelby Owens.

David has a BS in Finance and Accounting from Shorter College in Rome, GA. He served in the United States Navy and received an Honorable Discharge. He is a member of National Association of Accountants/North GA. and has served as President. He was a Board Member/Instructor for Junior Achievement. He is a former member of the Varnell Ruritan Club and a current member of Varnell United Methodist Church.

David is the owner of Capitol Industries, Inc., Cavalier Flooring Products, Dalton Direct Carpets and Calhoun Carpet Outlet

David has served on the Varnell City Council since 1997.

Mayor Pro Tem David Owens

Mark has been married to Barbara for 36 years. They have 2 daughters - Jennifer and Natalie and one granddaughter – Olivia. Mark received a BBA from University of Oklahoma in 1970. He served in the U.S. Army from 1970 to 1972. He then went on to earn a MB from Oklahoma State University in 1974. Mark was a Board Member/Instructor for Junior Achievement. He is involved in Real Estate Development and Carpet Sales.

Mark has been on the Varnell City Council since 2006.

Brent, and his wife Donna, have lived in Varnell since 2001. They have 3 children: a son, Cody and 2 daughters, Taylor and Sami. He lives in Highland Pointe and attends Varnell United Methodist Church. Brent received a bachelor’s degree in Business Information Systems from the University of West Georgia in 1993, and is currently employed as an IT manager with Marketing Alliance Group. Brent is also co-founder and president of a web hosting and consulting company called InventureIT.

Brent Newsome

James, and his wife Rebekah, have lived in Varnell since 2001. They have 2 children: Douglas and Kayla. He lives in New Hope Landing Sub- Division and attends Fellowship Baptist Church. James works for a local manufacture as an Architectural Sales Rep and covers Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee.

James Caldwell
